1. Job Summary
The Tendering Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and technically compliant cost estimates for construction projects. The role involves detailed review of tender documents, quantity take-off verification, coordination with suppliers and subcontractors, cost analysis, and full participation in the tendering cycle to ensure successful and competitive bids.
2. Duties and Responsibilities
1. Tender Document Review
• Review architectural and structural drawings, project specifications, and tender documents.
• Define project scope of works and identify discrepancies, gaps, or missing information.
• Prepare Requests for Information (RFIs) for clarifications from clients or consultants.
• Review and validate quantity take-offs for accuracy.
2. Cost Estimation
• Input bills of quantities into Candy software to initiate the estimation process.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Prepare technical and commercial comparison sheets to support bid recommendations.
• Maintain and update cost databases, market price references, and historical cost data.
3. Budget Preparation
• Prepare detailed direct cost breakdowns including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracted works.
• Generate project budgets using Candy after completion of the estimation phase.
• Identify risks and prepare contingency cost allowances where required.
4. Tender Submission
• Ensure tender submissions comply with client requirements and all technical and commercial instructions.
• Communicate with clients during the pre-bid stage for clarifications and updates.
• Prepare final cost sheets and review them with the direct manager prior to submission.
5. Final Stage & Handover
• Support contract review with the client and contracts department prior to signing.
• Handover tender files, cost breakdowns, and supporting documentation to the execution team when required.
3. Job Requirements
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Certifications: PMP, CCP (Certified Cost Professional), PSP (Planning & Scheduling Professional), or equivalent certifications are preferred. Knowledge of FIDIC contracts is an advantage.
• Experience: 1:3 years of experience in construction estimation, preferably in large-scale projects.
• Software: Proficiency in Candy software, MS Excel, and other estimation tools.
